What is currently known as Wyders River is thatportion that Henry acquired, and it was there that the church was constructed.
In contrast, all the other evidence supports the oral tradition passed on to Herbert Helm and Gwen Noall that Henry William Helm acquired the farm much earlier, soon after marying Anna, maybe in the early 1860's and that their eldest son was born there. This source goes on to relate this supporting evidence

He served as a missionary to the Matabele at Hope Fountain (not far out from present Bulawayo) until 1913. Lobengula never accepted Christianity but became great friends with Helm. "The Harvest and Hope" describes him as "a big man in every sense, physically, mentally, and spriitually, such was the confidence he evoked from others that, when Rhodes was negotiating with Lobengula, both men chose Helm to observe the negotiations which led to the concession to the British South Africa Company. A monument to him still stands at Hope Fountain along with a museum built in his honour.
His critics complain that he served too many masters, involved himself too much in the politics of the day, and did not allign himself with the interests of his flock. The international media even went further accusing him of siding with Rhodes to the detriment of the interests of the Matabele, but this reference says that the worst that can be said of him was that he was naive and too trusting. He believedthat "a gentleman stands by his word" and himself was oblivious of Rhode's grandiose schemes. More accurately, he was widely known as " the friend of the Matabele"

• Alt. Christening: !843. 9 Anna was baptized by her granfather, William ANDERSON in Pacaltsdorp. (Crossing the Cradock pass in those days was quite a feat; many trying journeys were made by the Andersons and Melvills. one of the Anderson daughters was actuaklly born on the summit of the pass and given the middle name "Cradocksia"!

• Historical: 9 Anna was decidedly pro-British which was not surprising given her Scottish and English ancestry. She spoke good Afrikaans to the farm labourers and acted selflessly to improve their lot. A special bench was set aside in the farmhouse for "rondlopers" who knew they xcould receive food and kindness. Anna was a great reader and the home was full of English magazines.

Events:

• Unknown: An Unknown Event, 1841.

• Occupation: Farmer, Wijders River Riversdale District. 9 First he worked as a Trader in the Bredasdorp area before acquiring a farm in the Riversdale-Albertinia district.
This reference also refers to " Die Geskiedenis van die Kerkgebou te Wydersrivier" which gives more information regarding the partitioning of the farm among a number of the HELM relatives.

• Occupation: 9 Henry farmed well creating beautiful and bountiful orchards as there was lots of irrigable land. He acquired one of the first gramaphones and the farm also boasted a croquet lawn. In his later years he became somewhat inactive and quiet, forever smoking his pipe.
