As a consequence of the advent of WW2, he never left the Ladismith hospital and eventually retired from general practice in 1987, and from the superintendance of the hospital in 1993. The Ladismith Hospital "brought into being" by his uncle in 1914, was re-named the Alan Blyth Hospital when he retired. He remained fit until 2 months before his death, aged 93, when he fractured a femur in a stupid fall that should never have happened. Alan married Enid Louise FEATHERSTONE, daughter of Robert FEATHERSTONE and Jacoba SMIT, on Oct 12, 1935 in All Saints Church Somerset East, Cape Colony, Southern Africa. (Enid Louise FEATHERSTONE was born on Aug 4, 1910 in Pearston Or (More Probably) Somerset East, South Africa, died on Feb 10, 1968 in Ladismith, Cape Colony, Southern Africa and was buried on Feb 13, 1968 in Ladismith, Cape Colony, Southern Africa.) Alan next married Catherina Elizabeth MURRAY, daughter of George MURRAY and Unknown, in Mar 1969 in Cape Town South Africa. (Catherina Elizabeth MURRAY was born on Jan 16, 1908 in Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and died on Sep 30, 2001 in Ladismith, Cape Colony, Southern Africa.) |
