Mickey Fairers (Peall) said that he had stayed with his parents before a raid (of the squadron over Germany) and had left a half written letter, which was published in the London Times, saying that he did not think he would return from this raid! So sad at 21 years.
• Military Service: HURWORTH ANTHONY PAUL PEALL is the younger brother of Guy Harcourt James Peall <http://griquatownandersons.com/ancestors/2627.htm> husband of Martha Magdalena Maria Davel <http://griquatownandersons.com/ancestors/2626.htm>. He was at first a Spitfier Pilot, he was shot down & wounded. He was then not able to fly spitfiers again, so he was transferred to bomber command & flew as second pilot in the bomber. Micky Fairers ( Peall) said he had stayed with his parents before the raid & had left a half written letter which was published in the London Times. He told his family that he did not think he would return from this raid.
Note: I think Micky Fairers was not a Peall but a friend that Hurworth (Buster) had met in England, as his parents had emigrated to Southern Rhodesia before WW2.
Sadly, indeed.Buster was killed in that raid. R.B.Anderson

Hello,
This year is the 70th anniversary of what was known as the Augsburg Raid. This was flown by 44 Sqn of RAF Waddington along with 97 Sqn who were from another airfield in Lincolnshire at Woodall Spa, 17 April 1942.
It was on this raid that Pilot Officer PEALL, (Buster) Hurworth Anthony Paul lost his life.
A book, 'The Augsburg Raid' by Jack Currie, tells the story of the raid.
There were 6 Lancaster aircraft of 44 Sqn who flew on a mission attacking a factory producing diesel engines used in the German U boats at this time. Sadly only a single Lancaster returned to the UK. The circumstances of this raid are on a par with those who flew on the more famous 'Dambusters' raid.
In the book the letter from Pilot Officer Peall to his mother is recalled (copy now attached) and he mentions a 'Tricia, Guy, and little Anthony'. I wonder if you have any further details about these individuals? I myself found the words 'Buster' wrote quite moving and would have liked to have known more about him.
This year from 17 to 19 April a number of events are taking place here in the UK to mark the 70th anniversary culminating in a Dinning In Night at RAF Waddington to commemorate those who took part in the raid. Having looked at your web site I have learnt that he was a Spitfire pilot before being shot down suffering an injury meaning a move from fighter aircraft to bombers.
I am not sure if you are able to provide any further details on 'Buster' or his family but be assured, we will be remembering him and his colleagues during April 2012.
