Willem Marthinus Davel [2550], son of Michiel Karel Davel [2547] and Martha Magdelena Maria Steyn [2548], was born on 7 Oct 1886 in Middleburg Transvaal South Africa, was christened on 31 Oct 1886 in Ngk Middleburg Tvl., died on 2 Aug 1922 in Victoria Hospital, Fort Victoria (Now Masvinga) Zimbabwe aged 35, and was buried in Intered At Sishamba Farm, Fort Victoria, District. Another name for Willem was William Marthinus Davel.

• Arrival in Zimbabwe: Probably arrived before, 1914, Gwelo, (Now Gweru) Zimbabwe.

• Historical: 1922. According to his Death Certificate, BookXII Cert.No.17/34, he died of Influenza, Broncho Pneumonia, in the Victoria Hospital, and the intended place of burial was Sishamba Farm which is presumably in the then District of Victoria

• Birth Reference: A Baptismal Certificate of the Ned.Geref. K of Middleburg Tvl, states he was baptised on the 11 Oct 1886 and born on the 7 Oct 1886 and the parents are named as recorded here.

Willem married Helena Elizabeth Pretorius [2551], daughter of Johannes Lodewikus Pretorius [2978] and Helena Elizabeth Smit [2979], on 27 Oct 1914 in Gwelo, (Now Gweru) Zimbabwe. Helena was born on 28 Dec 1896 in Nylstroom, Northern Transvaal, Union Of South Africa, was christened on 20 Apr 1897 in Waterburg, Transvaal, South Africa, died on 3 Jul 1974 in Gwelo, (Now Gweru) Zimbabwe aged 77, and was buried on 6 Jul 1974 in Grave2482 Gwelo Cemetery Zimbabwe. Other names for Helena were Elena Elizabeth Pretorius and Nonie? Pretorius.¹

However a coy of a Baptismal Certificate of the NGK of Waterberg, TVL. states that she was baptised on the 20 Apr 1897 as Helena Elizabeth and born on the 28 Dec 1896 in Nylstroom TVL.Her parents were Johannes Lodevikus Pretorius, and mother was Helena Elizabeth Smit. This is taken to be the more accurate record.
