• Degree. Dennis Clemes qualified as a chemist with a B Sc in Chemistry and Physics in about 1955
• Occupation. He entered industry working in the paint manufacturing sector. He also became interested in the development of polymers. Later he was appointed Managing Director of Wiggins Teape, a paper manufacturer and a subsidiary of the British American Tobacco Company. (BAT) His interest in paper and chemistry led to the invention of a special packing paper for the grape export industry. Te paper allows the slow release of sulphur dioxide which is a preservative. This product has been patentede world wide.
• Family. He married Dianne Harworth in 1961. and they had two children. The marriage ended in divorce in 1973. In 1978 he married BArbara van Boomstra and they had a son Christopher born in 1981. THe y were divorced the same year.
