  Events

• Occupation. ¹ He reached the rank of Brigadier as Head of the C.I.D.

• Alt Birth. ¹ From the Genealogical Society of SA, Peter Holden, the birth date on the gravestone is 8 Sep 1897, and not 1899 and the death date is 21 Mar 1975. Another date of death is 1974.

• Historical. ¹ This Christian Sefontein joined the Police as a stop-gap and had every intention of returning to the "Weltevreden" Farm in Kirkwood to farm ostriches like his forebears. He had a scar on his leg where he was kicked by an ostrich and he would rub the scar thoughtfully and talk with deep longing of the notion of owning farm land. His family said it was all nonsense, he would hate to farm again, but he was an Afrikaner with an intense love of his country and woven deep within his psyche was a passion for the soil.
He and his wife were cremated and their ashes interred in the Wakelyn Family Grave in the now closed Mowbray Cemetery in Cape Town
On the Baptismal Certificate for his only son Peter, dated 1936, his occupation is given as "Lieutenant S.A.P." He eventually rose to the rank of Brigadeer

• Birth. ¹ As regards his baptism in Barrydale his daughter Pamela says her father never mentioned living there and always spoke of Calitzdorp and their move to Kirkwood. She says that perhaps there was no church in Calitzdorp and he had to be baptised in Barrydale.

Christiaan married Ivy Irene Wakelin, daughter of James Wakelin and Katherina Sophia Louw, on Mar 10, 1928 in Congregational Church, Sea Point, Cape Town. (Ivy Irene Wakelin was born on Aug 7, 1904,¹ died on Oct 13, 1974 ¹ and was buried in DRC Cemetery, Observatory, Cape Town ¹.)
